How To Start The New Year Right

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

How does one make their year happy?  You should live throughout the year being happy with yourself  in mind, body, and spirit.  Happy with the way you think, feel, and love life.

Have you been promising yourself to loose weight, be a better person, or become healthier?  You can succeed in all areas of improvement by first taking “baby steps”, not jumping into a changeover with full force.  By trying to make a difference too fast you will burn yourself out and not stick with the changes you would like to make.  I continue to take “baby steps” after 10 years of replacing my past lifestyle with  new alterations.  I always look to see what I can do different to live healthier.  It is an everyday challenge that I turn into a game.

My number one rule in loosing weight is DO NOT diet!  You want to make lifestyle changes.  Diets do not work. Continue Reading »

How Sharing Was Beneficial To Me

  • Here in Taos, NM there are street vendors who sell the weekly newspaper on the busy street corners in town.  While I was heading into town to babysit and run errands I stopped and bought my weekly paper from one of these hard working souls.  A few hours later I was making my last stop which was to put some mail in the drive-thru mailbox.  As I was making my turn I noticed a newspaper street vendor sitting under a tree looking sort of lonely.  With it being the holiday season I was overcome by a thought to share and give this man two dollars, just because.  Two dollars may not sound like a lot, but who is to judge what amount is or is not appreciated?  I told the man I already had a paper but wanted to donate the money to him.  Well, needless to say he was ecstatic and just kept saying “bless you”, “bless you.”  I actually got a little tear in my eye as I pulled away.  It felt so good to know I had warmed this mans heart.  I just felt like sharing, knowing how hard these people work to make their living or to supplement their income.  More times than not I give the vendors a tip but I like to be extra nice this time of the year. How to Get Healthy in 2010

  • Happy New Year!
  • So did you make a New Years resolution to diet?  Haven’t you learned by now diets don’t work?  Seriously, all a diet does is cause a yo-yo affect.  Yes, you may loose some weight, and then do you notice gaining that weight back, plus some?  When the body goes through the loss of weight, you gain that weight back, plus some extra, this damages your metabolism.  A damaged metabolism makes it more difficult to become healthy.  You can heal your metabolism, and when you do, you are primed to lose fat weight.  Making healthier food choices and getting up and moving will help you be successful in the new year.  This should be your New Years resolution…..Healing Your Metabolism.  Continue Reading »

Holiday Greeting From Taos, NM

img_00046

  • I will be taking a break from my writing so we can travel from Taos, NM to the Dayton, OH area, to be with family and friends during the holiday.  I will continue my writing next year.  It has been fun coming up with subjects to write about that I think people are interested in reading, and enjoy learning from.  There has been challenges that have made me work my brain when it gets lazy.  That has been a good thing.  My goal is to continue coming up with fun recipes and subjects everyone can learn from, taking away some knowledge of healthy living.

  • Remember to take deep breaths when you feel the stress coming on over the holidays.  Stop and take a power nap if necessary.  If you find yourself really feeling run down don’t forget Vitamin C can be a very important vitamin supplement that can boost the immune system tremendously.  For the new year make it a goal to be the healthiest you have ever been.  Being healthy can be your life insurance.

I wish everyone a safe, healthy, and enjoyable holiday.

Happy New Year 2010! I wish it to be the best year ever for all of you!

How To Feed Your Soul During The Holidays

  • I thought I would share some ideas on ways you can get a “warm fuzzy” feeling during the holiday season.  It isn’t all about buying that expensive gift…remember it is “the thought that counts.”  Be creative, maybe you can come up with your own idea.

Tips for a Soulful Holiday Season

  1. When wrapping gifts use old newspaper, magazine pages, and reuse good condition gift bags.  By recycling paper you will help save the trees of the world.  The soul will feel feed by changing the way you wrap those gifts. Continue Reading »

How To De-Stress Over The Holidays

  • The reason we feel so stressed mainly has to do with the demands forced upon us from family, work, and our lifestyle.  We also impose upon ourselves, causing stress in the desire to have high accomplishments.
  • When we allow high levels of stress it can create a break down of the immune system, changes in hormonal function, digestive tract complications, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and neurological difficulties, along with disease. Continue Reading »

Essiac Tea And Its Value

I had no clue what Essiac Tea was all about until I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2000, and a Naturopath advised me to start using it, which I have done twice a day every day since.

  • The tea is named after a Canadian nurse Rene Caisse.  Essiac tea is blend of four herbs that was shared with Rene by an Ojibway indian herbalist.  The blend of herbs was used by the Ojibway tribe for spiritual balance and body healing.  A book written about the complete story of Rene Caisse’s struggles using Essiac tea is titled “The Calling of An Angel” by Dr. Gary L. Glum. Continue Reading »

Giving Thanks Every Day

img_2161

  • I just want to send a short post letting everyone know how thankful I am during this holiday and everyday.  I am thankful for:
  1. My son getting me started in using this website.  I never thought I would be sharing all the information I have learned via the internet.  I have enjoyed writing to help educate people in healthier living.
  2. Having the opportunity to live in a healthy, spiritual place (Taos, NM).
  3. My wonderful health.  I continue to stay well, only noticing some aches and pains that come with age.
  4. Sharing every day with a wonderful person, my husband Ray.  I have been blessed to have his loving support in my every day life.
  5. The loving support of family and friends.  It is very healthy to be around family and friends having others to share your laughter and sorrows.
  6. Being able to live in a beautiful place, breathing in clean air.
  7. Every day I am alive.

I don’t think I am any different than any of you, when I start thinking negative I have to remind myself how great my life is.  Try to practice giving thanks everyday either when you wake up or when you lie down at night. Negativity is an unhealthy part of living.  If more people would try to fill their lives with joy, and laughter this world would be a much better place for everyone.

How to Get Involved in Volunteering

  • Have you ever thought about volunteering in your community?  Maybe you have a lifestyle where you can travel around and volunteer.

My husband Ray and I have volunteered for a couple of agencies in the last 15 years.  In our home town of Dayton, OH we helped with volunteer ushering for the theaters.  During the winter months we would usher weekly having a wonderful opportunity to see some great shows the local theater offered.  Actually this is how my husband and I started dating.  I had been volunteering for the theatre for many years.  When I first met Ray we had a conversation about “The Will Roger’s Follies” that was coming to the theatre and was sold out.  Ray had wished he had bought a ticket but I came to the rescue by offering him the opportunity to come help usher and see the show at the same time.  We continued doing the volunteer ushering for a couple of years.  The reason we quit volunteering for the theater was due to us moving away from the Dayton area. • Disease begins when there is an imbalance within the body.  The body becomes stressed when the system is out of balance, and the stress is what initiates disease.
  • According to researchers at the University of Pennsylvania depressed women are more likely to get breast cancer than those who have never been depressed.
  • When anger, negative emotions, repressed and suppressed emotions, and stress are a part of a lifestyle they can be very damaging to ones health.
  • Feeling down and depressed increase stress hormones that destruct the immune system and health of the human body. Continue Reading »
