- I want to first explain some of the negative effects caffeine has on the body and why it is healthy to consider detoxing from the stimulant.
- Some people may believe caffeine helps curb their appetite but truth is the stimulant ends up increasing the appetite, along with enhancing the craving for sweets and promotes the storage of fat.
- Caffeine has a diuretic effect which forces a more than normal amount of excretion of vitamins, minerals, and water. Vitamins B and C are especially susceptible to being leeched out of the body along with the mineral calcium when too much caffenie is consumed.
- The gastrointestinal, circulatory, and cardiovascular systems are affected from too much caffeine. The hydrocholoric acid output is increased, the heart beats faster, blood vessels around the brain constrict but around the heart they dilate, blood flow to extremities is decreased, and eyeball pressure is raised. It is highly suggested anyone suffering from glacoma should consider no consumption of any caffeine.
- Caffeine has some effect on every organ, tissue, and cell in the body.
- Kidney stones can develop from the chemical and diuretic effects of caffeine.
- Note: The above mentioned negative effects are a result of consuming 500mg or more of caffeine a day. Continue Reading »

I had no clue what Essiac Tea was all about until I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2000, and a Naturopath advised me to start using it, which I have done twice a day every day since.
- The tea is named after a Canadian nurse Rene Caisse. Essiac tea is blend of four herbs that was shared with Rene by an Ojibway indian herbalist. The blend of herbs was used by the Ojibway tribe for spiritual balance and body healing. A book written about the complete story of Rene Caisse’s struggles using Essiac tea is titled “The Calling of An Angel” by Dr. Gary L. Glum. Continue Reading »

- I just want to send a short post letting everyone know how thankful I am during this holiday and everyday. I am thankful for:
- My son getting me started in using this website. I never thought I would be sharing all the information I have learned via the internet. I have enjoyed writing to help educate people in healthier living.
- Having the opportunity to live in a healthy, spiritual place (Taos, NM).
- My wonderful health. I continue to stay well, only noticing some aches and pains that come with age.
- Sharing every day with a wonderful person, my husband Ray. I have been blessed to have his loving support in my every day life.
- The loving support of family and friends. It is very healthy to be around family and friends having others to share your laughter and sorrows.
- Being able to live in a beautiful place, breathing in clean air.
- Every day I am alive.
I don’t think I am any different than any of you, when I start thinking negative I have to remind myself how great my life is. Try to practice giving thanks everyday either when you wake up or when you lie down at night. Negativity is an unhealthy part of living. If more people would try to fill their lives with joy, and laughter this world would be a much better place for everyone.

- The season is upon us with all the hustle and bustle starting to happen. All the running around making sure you have a present for little Timmy and Aunt Martha can become quite stressful. Gathering with family and friends also becomes an ideal time for germs to spread causing illness. Nobody likes being stressed or ill during what is suppose to be a festive time.
- There are some effortless means of protecting yourself that can help make your holiday an enjoyable experience. All it takes is turning the suggestions into a habit, like brushing your teeth. Continue Reading »

Are you worried about all the celebrating during the holiday’s that is centered around food?
- Let me start by saying “dieting” should not even be a word in your vocabulary. How many times have you been on a diet, lost some weight, and then put the weight back on and then some? I lived through my 20’s and 30’s experiencing the “yo-yo” dieting. I have since learned this lifestyle can have some consequences. Continue Reading »

- Have you ever thought about volunteering in your community? Maybe you have a lifestyle where you can travel around and volunteer.
My husband Ray and I have volunteered for a couple of agencies in the last 15 years. In our home town of Dayton, OH we helped with volunteer ushering for the theaters. During the winter months we would usher weekly having a wonderful opportunity to see some great shows the local theater offered. Actually this is how my husband and I started dating. I had been volunteering for the theatre for many years. When I first met Ray we had a conversation about “The Will Roger’s Follies” that was coming to the theatre and was sold out. Ray had wished he had bought a ticket but I came to the rescue by offering him the opportunity to come help usher and see the show at the same time. We continued doing the volunteer ushering for a couple of years. The reason we quit volunteering for the theater was due to us moving away from the Dayton area. Continue Reading »

- Disease begins when there is an imbalance within the body. The body becomes stressed when the system is out of balance, and the stress is what initiates disease.

Have you ever wondered what is causing your aches and pains?
For the last month I was experiencing some aches and pains wondering what might be triggering the problem. The joints in my fingers were so tight and painful. I was worried I might be having symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. I would wake up in the morning barely able to make a fist without pain. Throughout the day my thumb joint would hurt when I went to lift something. My hands just felt so stiff. It was on my mind often as to what might be causing my pain.
In the year 2000 I stopped drinking coffee for a couple of reasons. I was diagnosed with breast cancer (ductual carcinoma in-situ) and wanted to “clean” up my act in what I was putting into my body. I know there is much pro and con about coffee being good or bad to drink. With my lifestyle at the time it was difficult trying to find fair trade, organic, grown in shade, coffee, which would of been a good alternative. So I just stopped drinking coffee altogether. I also learned caffeine is a drug. Why would I want to purposely put a drug in my body when I was trying to cleanse my system? So for about seven years I resorted to drinking herbal teas.
