So, you don’t know where to start with eating, and living a healthier life? I suggest taking small steps (“baby steps” in other words) so you won’t become discouraged and/or “burnt out.”
Suggestions on Eating Healthier:
- Never skip breakfast, making it as balanced as possible (protein, good carbohydrate, healthy fat, vegetable). By eating a balanced breakfast you are “starting the furnace”, helping jump start your metabolism, which in turn will help you loose weight. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
- Make a conscience effort to eat healthy snacks. You want to always include some protein but not too much. Some suggestions are: hard boiled egg and a vegetable, peanut butter and celery, white cheese (less fat than yellow cheese) and crackers (whole grain). Be creative, but try to keep the snack balanced.
- Work on cutting down on eating red meat. I suggest one serving a week or none at all. If you insist on eating red meat try buying buffalo. It is more lean then beef. The leaner the better for your arteries and all around health. There are some suggestions that colon cancer is linked to eating too much red meat. Try cooking with more chicken and fish. I highly suggest your chicken be “free range” or organic (see other post about this subject). Fish should never be farm raised. The farms feed the fish chemicals to: 1) produce more fish, and 2) with salmon they give them colored red pellets to make the skin red.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables. You can eat quite a bit with very few calories. A good way to incorporate more into your diet is to have vegetables cut up ready to grab, and with fruit you can either make a fruit salad or just have fruit out on the counter ready to be eaten. Continue Reading »

You are going to see in the papers, on television, and even on the computer advertisements for sales, sales, sales, during the holiday season. Does this make you feel like you “have” to go out and buy “stuff” because it is on sale? Do you realize this causes stress?
Stop and think about what the true meaning of the holiday is. Okay, so you feel the need to give a gift to Aunt Sue, the mailman, Mary’s teacher, etc. There are ways to go about gift giving that can be fun, rewarding, and very much appreciated without a lot of stress. Have you ever thought about making a gift? If you are like me I would want it to be something easy and stress free. Continue Reading »

- Are you able to get out and get some exercise, walk at the mall, go to a gym, or do some yoga during the winter season? Are you eating fresh unprocessed foods? Are you getting out in the sunshine or taking a Vitamin D supplement?
- These are a few things to consider while trying to stay healthy during the winter and all year round.
The following are suggestions on helping keep yourself healthy:
- A person does not have to do strenuous exercise to receive the benefits of staying healthy. A 30 minute walk will raise the heart rate helping pump blood and oxygen throughout the body. When exercising toxins that build up in the body are released by sweating. Releasing a toxic build-up is beneficial to improving the immune system which helps keeps us well. One of the risk factors for atherosclerotic coronary heart disease and stroke is the lack of exercise. Exercise and optimum nutrition helps a person be less susceptible to type-2 diabetes. - Anyone who is in good nutritional health does not develop rheumatoid or osteoarthritis according to Dr. Robert Bingham, a specialist in the treatment of arthritis. Nine out of ten people by the age of sixty develop rheumatoid and/or osteoarthritis.
- Arthritis can be prevented as long as the underlying causes are eliminated. When a search for a cause of arthritis was done there were many things considered, including posture, climate, hormones, diet, infections, genetics, old age, physical exercise, and stress. Patrick Holford, author of “The New Optimum Nutrition Bible” believes the development of the symptoms of arthritis or any type of arthritic disease, is the result of a piling up of stresses that sooner or later cause bone, joint, and muscle degeneration. - The two major types of diabetes are: type 1 and type 2. I am writing about type 2 which is non-insulin dependent. The most common of the two is type 2 diabetes. Approximantely 90 to 95 percent of sufferers have the type 2 form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is most popular in affecting people in their later years but has become common recently with younger people being diagnosed with the disease. The lack of exercise, and poor diet helps contribute to this shift in younger people being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Continue Reading »

- The reason we feel so stressed mainly has to do with the demands forced upon us from family, work, and our lifestyle. We also impose upon ourselves, causing stress in the desire to have high accomplishments.
- When we allow high levels of stress it can create a break down of the immune system, changes in hormonal function, digestive tract complications, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and neurological difficulties, along with disease. Continue Reading »

I spoke too soon about never having back problems because it happened just the other day. There have been times my back has been “gimpy” but never to the point I had trouble walking. Now I know what people experience when complaining about back pain and trying to function throughout the day. I could barely walk or stand up straight. I can only figure my problem was the result of a poor mattress and that I laid on my stomach. I know sleeping on the stomach is bad, which I don’t do on purpose, but it sometimes happens when trying to get comfortable on the faulty mattress. The solution will be the purchase of a new mattress along with a plan to do back muscle strengthening exercise. I have a steady routine of doing floor exercise but will concentrate more on strengthening my back. Continue Reading »

- Disease begins when there is an imbalance within the body. The body becomes stressed when the system is out of balance, and the stress is what initiates disease.
- According to researchers at the University of Pennsylvania depressed women are more likely to get breast cancer than those who have never been depressed.
- When anger, negative emotions, repressed and suppressed emotions, and stress are a part of a lifestyle they can be very damaging to ones health.
- Feeling down and depressed increase stress hormones that destruct the immune system and health of the human body. Continue Reading »
