Essiac Tea And Its Value

I had no clue what Essiac Tea was all about until I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2000, and a Naturopath advised me to start using it, which I have done twice a day every day since.

  • The tea is named after a Canadian nurse Rene Caisse.  Essiac tea is blend of four herbs that was shared with Rene by an Ojibway indian herbalist.  The blend of herbs was used by the Ojibway tribe for spiritual balance and body healing.  A book written about the complete story of Rene Caisse’s struggles using Essiac tea is titled “The Calling of An Angel” by Dr. Gary L. Glum. Continue Reading »

Giving Thanks Every Day

img_2161

  • I just want to send a short post letting everyone know how thankful I am during this holiday and everyday.  I am thankful for:
  1. My son getting me started in using this website.  I never thought I would be sharing all the information I have learned via the internet.  I have enjoyed writing to help educate people in healthier living.
  2. Having the opportunity to live in a healthy, spiritual place (Taos, NM).
  3. My wonderful health.  I continue to stay well, only noticing some aches and pains that come with age.
  4. Sharing every day with a wonderful person, my husband Ray.  I have been blessed to have his loving support in my every day life.
  5. The loving support of family and friends.  It is very healthy to be around family and friends having others to share your laughter and sorrows.
  6. Being able to live in a beautiful place, breathing in clean air.
  7. Every day I am alive.

I don’t think I am any different than any of you, when I start thinking negative I have to remind myself how great my life is.  Try to practice giving thanks everyday either when you wake up or when you lie down at night. Negativity is an unhealthy part of living.  If more people would try to fill their lives with joy, and laughter this world would be a much better place for everyone.

  • The season is upon us with all the hustle and bustle starting to happen.  All the running around making sure you have a present for little Timmy and Aunt Martha can become quite stressful.  Gathering with family and friends also becomes an ideal time for germs to spread causing illness.  Nobody likes being stressed or ill during what is suppose to be a festive time.
  • There are some effortless means of protecting yourself that can help make your holiday an enjoyable experience.  All it takes is turning the suggestions into a habit, like brushing your teeth. Continue Reading »

Vindaloo is originally a spiced pork dish from Portuguese.  Vindaloo is a spicy curry.  This recipe has replaced the pork with chicken for a lighter version.  The recipe has a very good spicy flavor.  If you enjoy Eastern Indian food, this recipe would be good to try.  My husband and I found the spice combination to be just right. Are you worried about all the celebrating during the holiday’s that is centered around food?

  • Let me start by saying “dieting” should not even be a word in your vocabulary.  How many times have you been on a diet, lost some weight, and then put the weight back on and then some?  I lived through my 20’s and 30’s experiencing the “yo-yo” dieting.  I have since learned this lifestyle can have some consequences.  Continue Reading »

Easy Salad Dressing Recipe

img_21871

  • This recipe I am sharing with you was made up by my husband.  I learned about this dressing 15 years ago when I first met him.  This recipe is used in our household about 98% of the time.  We always have the ingredients available and it only takes a few minutes to put together with no fuss or mess.  It only takes a bottle to mix the ingredients, preferably a salad dressing type bottle.  My boys gave it the name “river water.”  Don’t let the name “turn you off”, the dressing was given the name because of the murkiness when the dressing is all shook up.  It is a flavorful oil and vinegar dressing.  When we serve this dressing to company everyone enjoys the taste and asks us how to make it, which is why I decided to post it on my website.

How To Purchase Quality Animal Foods

With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up I thought it might be important to educate people on which animal foods are of higher quality.  You will especially want to read about how to make a healthier choice in purchasing poultry for the holiday.  The information listed below should be valued and used everyday when eating animal foods.

  • Fish – It is best to avoid farmed fish.  The fish is regularly fed genetically engineered soybean feed, which is higher in herbicides and other chemical residue.  Some fish is injected with Red Dye #40 to make the flesh more colorful.  Wild salmon are abundant in essential fatty acids, and have eaten natural foods.  Smaller fish is another healthy choice.  The fish are younger and have less time to accumulate toxins.  Small fish are herring, sardines, snapper, anchovies, etc.  Canned tuna is usually yellow fin, which is a larger tuna.  Albacore tuna is a better choice because it is a smaller tuna.  Continue Reading »

How To Make Chewy Granola Bars

This recipe was easy to make, not requiring too much preparation.  I found the granola bars to have good flavor too.  I liked using the oats, dried apricots, walnuts, along with almond butter, giving the recipe some fiber, good fat (walnuts and almond butter), and healthy fruit.  Make sure you use unsulfured dried fruit for a healthier choice. How To Avoid and Heal Back Pain

2447477860_e95656d5ec1

I spoke too soon about never having back problems because it happened just the other day.  There have been times my back has been “gimpy” but never to the point I had trouble walking.  Now I know what people experience when complaining about back pain and trying to function throughout the day.  I could barely walk or stand up straight.  I can only figure my problem was the result of a poor mattress and that I laid on my stomach.  I know sleeping on the stomach is bad, which I don’t do on purpose, but it sometimes happens when trying to get comfortable on the faulty mattress.  The solution will be the purchase of a new mattress along with a plan to do back muscle strengthening exercise.  I have a steady routine of doing floor exercise but will concentrate more on strengthening my back.
