Where To Find A Decent Whole Wheat Tortilla In Ohio?

tortilla-stack

Dilemma: I have had so much trouble finding a whole wheat tortillas in the Dayton area.  Actually an organic whole wheat tortillas.

Some may think I am being picky with the tortillas having to be organic but it is a preference I have.  Maybe I am looking too hard (i.e. health food stores, Trader Joe’s).

I haven’t tried the average grocery stores which is probably where I would find them (go figure).  I am use to being able to find about 3 different choices at one time back in New Mexico.  I knew this would be some of the food buying challenges I would be facing when moving back to Ohio.

Conclusion: I have learned not to expect healthy food shopping to be easy everywhere I travel.  Actually, it is interesting to see what areas of the country that I have traveled provide healthier foods than others.  Sad but true that some areas that could use more of the healthier choices don’t have the options.  Good healthy choices is such a challenge and a game one has to play when trying to eat healthy while traveling or making changes in where we live around the country.

Solution: I decided to buy some organic wheat pitas I found while shopping at Whole Foods in Columbus, OH.  I will admit, I did not ask store managers if maybe they were out of stock of organic whole wheat tortillas. The next time this will be the action I take if I still can not locate what I desire.  I guess I haven’t had enough of playing the game.

Why a whole wheat tortilla? Whole wheat is a way to increase fiber into the diet.  Whole grain is less stripped of the nutritional content when processed, and is a complex carbohydrate which breaks down in ones system slower than a simple carbohydrate.
