Getting To Know Melinda Baker: Mother, Wife, Cancer Survivor And Holistic Health Lifestyle Coach

After the loss of my parents to cancer and then myself being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, I felt the need to take charge of my health and learn how to make myself well – naturally.
I didn’t want to suffer the same fate as my parents and knew that a dramatic lifestyle change was necessary. I began doing research which led me to discover the many ways to nuture the body’s own healing capacity.
Through my research I understood that my lifestyle with the stresses of being a busy working mom and wife, combined with my eating habits, contributed to contracting cancer. It didn’t help that most of my adult life I had been on a series of yo-yo diets, ultimately weighing 189 pounds, quite a lot for someone with my tiny frame.
I made a commitment to get healthy and maintain the new lifestyle.
My life changed for the better and this led to a passion to help others do the same.
The next step on my journey was to obtain my bachelor degree in holistic nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health. I’ve also been trained as a Second Degree Reiki Practitioner.
Enjoying good health to this day, I am excited to offer the information I have gathered and learned to help people lead long, healthy lives.

There is no way you ever weighed 189! That had to be before I met you. I have an extra roll that I would like to get rid of. You know I NEVER stick with any exercise of any kind. I’m 130 now and would like to lose 5 pounds. What’s a wellness coach advise?

Lori it is true 189 right before Joe was born…yikes huh? Do you have time to walk down the road starting with say 3 days a week? Take baby steps don’t think you have to do it all. Maybe cut your portions just slightly..small enough you really don’t notice. I like to drink water to fill me up. Heck I really need to loose 10lbs but my ideal weight would be to loose 5lbs. Thanks for the comment and questions.

Hello Melinda. Good to see things are up and running.I have been doing great. Trying to make some changes with my diet. Smaller meals 2 snacks that contain protein. Do you know of any good soy products that would be good for me to pack in my lunch. I am also trying to add more soy into my diet since the hot flashes have returned with a vengence. By the way I am now at the Fairfield Mall. Debi

Hello Melinda. Thanks for the information. Amazing all the things that we eat that can cause inflammation. They are me favorite things. Chocolate, fish, eggs ( I eat 2 egg white most every day to try and get my protein ) and cheese. The 1 positive is I don’t drink alcohol. Just goes to show how good it is for you to be a vegitarian. Dr Patel and I have talked about how food can cause inflammation. Never said what they were. We will take some steps in the right direction. See if I can help myself. Thanks for the info. Did youever get to talke to Dr. Patel?
